| Bright Jewels Music of 1940s &
1950s (2CD) |

Here is a fascinating and often surprising
collection of mostly early works by the late Sir Malcolm Arnold,
from a song written by the 17-year-old composer in 1938, setting words
by his adored elder sister Ruth, to another song written in 1963 as
a treat for his daughter. In between, a cantata, piano duets and chamber
music for winds, alongside more songs and a twinkling piano duet arrangement
of one of his most popular works (the second set of English Dances).
Many pieces appear on disc for the first time, and the result is a
true box of delights, full of Arnolds typical wit and melodic
gift.
